Ceel Kenny has been doing educational consulting since 1979. She was born and grew up in Massachusetts and received her BA from The College of New Rochelle in New York. She moved to Denver, Colorado after her marriage to Bostonian, Jack Kenny. She founded Professional Research for Educational Planning (PREP, Inc.) in 1981 and then Sedona Educational Associates, LLC (SEA) in 1992. Ceel is a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a Certified Educational Planner (CEP).
Ceel came to her present occupation after six years in the U.S. Marine Corps with duties ranging from Officer Procurement to position of Director of Admissions nationwide for all Women Marine Officer Candidates at Head Quarters Marine Corp. Her Procurement duties took her to the Midwest where she recruited for women officers in seven states visiting almost every college and university. She was a Captain when she took early "retirement" to marry and raise seven children. When her children and their friends began asking for information about colleges she realized that she had visited more colleges and knew more about them than the children's high school college counselors. After many years of doing volunteering it was time to get to work and share the burden of seven college educations. In 1979 she hung out her shingle as an Educational Consultant, an unheard of profession in the West at the time.
In 1981 she was accepted as a member of IECA. Although she started out doing college consulting it wasn't long before parents were asking her to assist them in boarding school placement, educational and psychological testing and ACT and SAT college preparatory classes. As the Director of PREP, Inc. in Denver, Ceel offered all of these services. In 1991, with the last of the seven in college, Ceel and Jack decided to take early retirement. PREP, Inc. was sold and they moved to Sedona, Arizona where their growing brood of grandchildren (12 and counting) often visit.
Retirement lasted one year. Two local boarding schools sought her advice in their college counseling and learning skills areas, as well as setting up SAT prep courses. Parents still called her for placement. So SEA came into being offering all the specialties of PREP, Inc. In Arizona she was joined by Associate Diana Kenny.
Ceel has explored a vast range of educational consulting specialties during her over 20 years of consulting. Experience with her many children and grandchildren gives her a unique personal view when working with her clients and their children. Lately she has found herself especially active in the area of special needs, ADD, ADHD and learning disabilities. Ceel provides school placement services at the CKG Winter Haven office as well as going to the client's location and/or to the Emotional Growth or Wilderness program that the child is attending.
Now living in beautiful Winter Haven, Florida, she enjoys bridge with friends, computer scrabble, aqua-aerobics, world travel and, as always, educational consulting!
