Diana Kenny has been working as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) for the last four years with public schools in San Antonio, Texas. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Trinity University in San Antonio. She studied abroad in Paris, France during her junior year of college to learn French and earn a minor in French and Womenıs Studies. After graduation, she moved to Denver, Colorado where she met and married her husband, David Kenny. In 1997 she took a position at The Woodhall School, working with high school students needing individualized emotional and academic support. This experience confirmed her interest in working with students with special needs and she returned to Trinity University in 1999 where she and David attended graduate school together. Both completed their Master of Arts in School Psychology. Diana is a member of the Texas Association of School Psychologists and the National Association of School Psychologists.
Since the completion of her training as an LSSP, Diana has practiced school psychology in the special education department of the Judson school district. She has worked with students with learning disabilities and emotional difficulties, including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. She spent the majority of her time assessing students with these difficulties and then working with teachers and parents to design educational plans to fit each childıs needs. Diana led group and individual counseling sessions with secondary students as well as play therapy groups for elementary age children with autism and emotional disorders. She also participated in team building and emotional growth courses for secondary students, known as ROPES courses. These experiences, combined with her education, have strengthened her ideas about educating ³the whole child² instead of seeing school as strictly a place to learn reading, writing, and math. She felt the frustration of students who did not fit the mold of a ³typical student² and worked to help them find better resources and programs to meet their needs.
Wanting to use these skills in a broader setting, Diana left her position as an LSSP in 2003 to join her mother-in-law, Ceel Kenny, in the family business of educational consulting. She now uses these same skills to help children and families in the private sector. Diana continues to provide psychological and psycho-educational assessments and counseling. Diana visits schools, colleges, emotional growth programs and wilderness programs across the country to provide first-hand information to parents seeking professional advice and placement for their children in the right setting for their child's special needs. She looks forward to working with parents as they seek to maximize their child's educational experience.
